A member and his boats.

Chris Larsen

Chris Larsen is still relatively new to the hobby having joined the club in 2004 after a miserable failure at flying helicopters. Chris was very soon persuaded by the Club Chairman to become publicity officer and take over the publishing of our quarterly newsletter – The Spinnaker. Chris was elected chairman in November 2005 and remains so to date. His main interest was scale but of late, has given more attention to the Soling which he finds both relaxing and, at times, challenging in strong winds. He has started to chronicle the thirty three year history of the club and this will be a major project for the rest of 2009.

Chris’s describes his favourite photo as ‘being at peace with my sail boat’ which he has on his desktop – switch on the computer and immediate stress relief!

Chris swears by Model Slipway kits and his first build was ‘Al Khubar 2’ which drove him nuts as a beginner but was pleased with the finished model.

This was followed by 3 of George Turner’s models who Chris also speaks of very highly.

The narrow boat is loved by children because of its bright colours and was steered by about 100 children one day at a Victorian Event. Chris built this one for his dear wife Pamela who is also a club member.

A further two models were built with some deviations to the plans to improve access to the motors/electronics.

Questions were being asked about his reluctance to scratch build so took a plan from a boat magazine and built SHB Triton – Harbour Master vessel.

And then Santa brought another Model Slipway kit – the Maggie M – a joy to build.
